Valheim is an action-survival game. The main character explores the world, engages in building, crafting equipment, and fights various creatures. The most dangerous among them are the bosses. Let's figure out how to defeat Eikthyr, The Elder, Bone Mass, Moder, Yagluth, and The Queen.
Description: Eikthyr is the first boss in Valheim. It's a large deer, chained and with electrified antlers.
What's Needed for Summoning: Eikthyr can be summoned an unlimited number of times. To summon, you'll need to spend 2 Deer Trophies at the Mystical altar. Deer Trophies can be obtained by killing deers. The altar is a rectangular stone table.
Where to Find the Rune Stone: At the very beginning of the game, you can find a rune stone that adds a marker on the map showing Eikthyr's location. In the Meadows biome, you can find several altars, any of which can be used for summoning.
Attacks: Eikthyr has three different attacks: lightning attacks (close and distant), an area lightning attack, and an antler attack.
Where to Find the Summoning Place: The summoning altar for Eikthyr is located in the Meadows. The spawn altar should indicate on the map where to find it. Usually, the boss appears near the summoning place.
How to Defeat: Eikthyr can be easily defeated using the starter Wood shield and Flint spear. Its attacks are easily blocked, and it's best to attack with the spear between its attacks. This way, you can destroy it in less than three minutes.
For maximum health and stamina, it is recommended to eat a variety of foods, for example, 1 cooked meat, 1 grilled neck tail, and 1 raspberry or mushroom. It's also recommended to rest the night before the fight.
What You Can Get: Eikthyr trophy and 3 Hard antler. The trophy can be hung on one of the five stones you see at the beginning of the game. The hero will receive a 60% stamina consumption reduction for running and jumping for 300 seconds. The Hard antler allows you to make a pickaxe from deer antlers, which is necessary for mining Stone, Copper, and Tin.
Description: The Elder is the second boss in Valheim. It is a large bipedal creature, very similar to a tree.
What's Needed for Summoning: The Elder can be summoned by burning 3 ancient seeds at the sacrificial altar in the Black Forest. Ancient seeds can be obtained from Greydwarf Brute and Greydwarf Shaman. Ancient seeds can also be found in random chests and as a reward on the altar. Hunting Greydwarfs is best done at night.
The altar is a square stone platform with four pillars at the corners and a fire bowl in the middle, it also has a runestone that says: Burn their young.
Where to Find the Rune Stone: In the Black Forest, you can find burial chambers. In one of them, you will come across a rune stone with a clue.
Attacks: The Elder has three attacks: stomping with its feet at close range, a long-range vine attack in a straight line targeting a selected player if no player is at close range, and Roots over a large area (raises its hand in the air before this). These roots will remain for some time and deal damage if a player gets close to them. The roots can be attacked and destroyed.
Where to Find the Summoning Place: The summoning place for The Elder is located in the Black Forest. Its location can be discovered by visiting Burial Chambers, where the rune stone will indicate the exact summoning place on the map.
How to Defeat: It is recommended to bring several health potions to the fight to heal during the prolonged battle with The Elder. Since The Elder is in the Black Forest, additional enemies may join the fight and significantly increase the difficulty. It's better to use a bow and fire arrows.
The Elder does not disappear if players run away or all die, and continues to pursue players over a significant distance.
What You Can Get: Elder Trophy and Swamp Key. Activating the Elder Trophy gives the player the ability to chop trees faster. The Swamp Key is needed to access the sunken crypts.
Description: Bonemass is the third boss in Valheim. It is a large green creature.
What's Needed for Summoning: Bonemass can be summoned with 10 Wither Bones, which can be found in swamp dungeons. They can be found in large quantities in chests within the crypts.
Where to Find the Rune Stone: Obtain the swamp key after defeating The Elder. Explore the dungeons in the Swamp. Be sure to bring a pickaxe to clear blockages in the crypts. The rune stone will give a clue about the boss summoning location.
Attacks: Bonemass can summon skeletons, blobs, and draugrs. It can also spray poisonous clouds, which are best avoided.
Where to Find the Summoning Place: The Skull altar for summoning is located in the swamp region.
How to Defeat: Bonemass is vulnerable to blunt weapon damage. Recommended weapons: Iron Mace, Wooden Club, and Stagbreaker.
Do not use bows and arrows, except to stop its health regeneration — it's highly ineffective. A fully upgraded Wooden Club will outperform a bow with iron arrows.
Use Mead for poison resistance. You can pass through poison, just don't stay in it.
Use the Stagbreaker to deal with skeletons and blobs when they are grouped together. If your health is low, it's better to step back to avoid being poisoned and heal calmly.
What You Can Get: Bonemass Trophy and Wishbone. Activating the trophy skill allows for 5 minutes (skill cooldown 20 minutes) of increased resistance to physical damage (blunt, pierce, and slash). The Wishbone allows finding secrets and silver.
Description: Moder (Mother) is the fourth boss in Valheim. It is a large wyvern with black scales and white fur.
What's Needed for Summoning: Moder can be summoned by acquiring 3 Dragon Eggs and placing them on the sacrificial altar in the Mountain biome. Dragon Eggs can be found in nests in the mountains, often guarded by regular dragons. Since the eggs themselves weigh 200, it will take several people or several trips to summon the boss.
Where to Find the Rune Stone: Use the wishbone obtained from the previous boss to find silver. Craft warm clothing. Now explore the mountain peaks to find the rune stone.
Attacks: Moder can fly, but she also periodically lands on the ground. While in the air, Moder will shoot projectiles that turn into crystalline formations upon impact. On the ground, Moder will attack either with claws or breathe frost from her maw.
Any of Moder's frost attacks will significantly slow your movement speed for 15 seconds, making you vulnerable to further attacks.
Where to Find the Summoning Place: The sacrificial altar is located in the Mountain biome. The altar is stone, circular in shape. Inside is a stone table. Behind it stand three offering bowls, into which Dragon Eggs need to be placed. The whole structure glows red and is decorated with black runes around the edges. They depict two wyverns, as well as four human figures.
How to Defeat: Use a bow when Moder is in the air or lands on the ground far from you. Dodge the projectiles. Sometimes Moder may roar — this is an excellent moment to land several hits on the boss. Wolves and other forest creatures may interfere, it's better to get rid of them immediately.
What You Can Get: Moder Trophy and Dragon tear. Activating the trophy skill allows for 5 minutes (skill cooldown 20 minutes) to use a tailwind while sailing.
Description: Yagluth is the fifth boss in Valheim. It is a large skeleton, of which only the upper half of the body remains.
What's Needed for Summoning: To summon Yagluth, you need to obtain five goblin totems and place them at the sacrificial altar in the Plains biome. Totems can be found in goblin camps.
Where to Find the Rune Stone: The stone can be found in a circle of stones, guarded by goblins. The stone may be hidden behind tall grass, so it's better to carefully examine the locations.
Attacks: Yagluth is quite slow, but has very strong attacks. Yagluth's fist will start glowing blue before he strikes the ground in front of him, creating a small explosion. Anyone within the blast radius will take damage.
Yagluth's fist will glow red before he hits the ground. After that, a meteorite stone will fall from above and create a small explosion at the landing site. Any hero at the landing point will take significant damage. These meteors can be avoided by using stone pillars as cover.
Yagluth can breathe fire in a straight line and slowly turn. This attack has a long range, but since Yagluth is quite slow, it can be dodged by stepping to the side. This attack can also be blocked with a good shield.
Where to Find the Summoning Place: The sacrificial altar for summoning can be found in the Plains biome. The altar is located inside four giant stone pillars. Inside the columns is a small table with five small circles, where you can place the totems.
In front of the altar, there is a red plate that can be used after placing the totems to complete the sacrifice, after which the boss will appear.
How to Defeat: Use a bow, the boss is quite slow. Watch his hands and dodge his long-range attacks. Up close, you can manage to land a few hits while he is raising his hand.
What You Can Get: Yagluth Trophy and Yagluth thing item. Activating the trophy skill allows for 5 minutes (skill cooldown 20 minutes) to gain resistance to magical damage (fire, ice, and lightning).
The Queen is the sixth boss in Valheim, whom you'll encounter in the Mistlands. She resembles a gigantic insect. During the battle, The Queen summons seekers — aggressive mobs that assist her in the fight.
You will need Sealbreaker fragments. These can only be found in the Infested Dungeons. Once you see a glowing stone — hit the pedestal with a pickaxe.
After that, you will be able to pick up this item. Keep in mind that not every infested mine contains such items.
Once you find nine pieces, assemble them into one item called the Sealbreaker Key. To do this, use the Galdr table.
Where to Find The Queen's Habitat
While exploring the Infested Dungeons, you must find a red runestone. Interact with it. After that, the location of The Queen's lair will appear on your map.
Head there after you've collected the «Sealbreaker Key». Use it on the door marked as Vault Dvergr. The Queen resides beyond it.
While exploring the Mistlands, you may accidentally stumble upon the place where The Queen resides. In this case, the red runestone will not be necessary.
You are in for a tough fight, so it's advisable to prepare in advance.
Bring your best armor, for example, the Carapace Armour Set, and the most effective food. Among nutritious dishes, we recommend the bykozaur pie and serpent stew. If you rely on magic, stock up on Yggdrasil porridge and Seeker aspic.
If you are playing solo, you should rely on ranged combat. Suitable weapons include the crossbow, Staff of embers, or Staff of frost. In cooperative play, it's better to distribute roles among players. For example, a melee fighter in heavy Carapace Armour takes on the damage, assisted by a mage clad in Eitr Armour. If you are fighting in close combat, use weapons with elemental damage, such as Himmin Afl.
During the fight, there might be a situation where you fall. To reduce fall damage, wear the Feather Cape.
On the arena itself, there will be fog. It's advisable to craft a Wisp torch in advance.
It's possible that in the future, developers will release a patch that removes this possibility. But at the time of writing this guide, this method is still working. You will need a powerful ranged weapon. After the battle with The Queen begins, retreat to the entrance of her lair and enter the room located before the arena. It's important that the boss follows you.
She will not be able to pass through the gates and will stop attacking you, while you can shoot at her with a bow, crossbow, or magic staff. Moreover, the damage will go through the walls. The only danger with this approach will be the Seekers, but they are not difficult to deal with.
As with other bosses, after defeating The Queen, you will receive a special trophy — Forsaken Power. You need to hang it on the wall to get the following bonuses:
If you want to fight the boss again, just find three Seeker Trophies, which sometimes drop from these mobs. Place them on the altar located on the top floor of the Infested Citadel.
