There are two main and three secret endings in Alone In The Dark that can be achieved by playing as the two main characters. The stories of Edward and Emily are almost identical, except for alternative levels and new locations in the mansion in Chapter 4. The secret endings are easy to miss because you will need to look for collectible items and complete special tasks. In this guide, we will tell you about all the endings and how to unlock them.
This is the standard ending that everyone will receive by completing the main quest. Reach Chapter 5 playing as Edward, and proceed to the strange ritual that the residents are holding in the greenhouse. You can talk to each of the attendees or immediately move on to the final part. How to defeat the final boss can be read in the game walkthrough guide. After winning, you will receive the achievement or trophy Case Closed.
To unlock Edward's special ending, you need to collect three items from the Hornless Goat set.
After collecting the set, you need to return to the strange tree near Dr. Gray's office. You can get there as soon as you read the Dark Man's contract. Walk around the tree and interact with it to activate the necessary trigger for the special ending.
Move to the final point and choose Wait for Hartwood to start the next scene. After Emily's shot, you will be able to control the character's gaze. You need to look to the left, at the tree, then Carnby will not fight the ritual but will join it. This can be done by hearing the ticking of the clock when time around slightly slows down. An achievement for unlocking the secret ending Child of the Black Goat is provided.
The standard ending that can be achieved by finishing the story as Emily. Everything will proceed similarly to Edward's story, as they work together in the finale. After defeating the last boss, you will unlock the achievement or trophy Alive and Well.
As with Edward's secret ending, you need to collect a specific set, namely A Worthy Death.
Visit Dr. Gray's office at the end of Chapter 4 and use the fake book to open a secret passage. In the room, interact with the nightstand to use the solvent and destroy Jeremy's painting.
Next, visit the snowy level, where you will find ancient ruins using a special device. Defeat the second form of the creature to start the final cutscene in Chapter 4. During the cutscene, Emily will confront the Dark Man. When the frame focuses on Emily alone, she appears to be about to put a gun to her head. Now you can briefly control the camera — look to the right, at her free hand, to raise it and show the Dark Man a symbol of allegiance.
This unlocks Emily's secret ending. Instead of fighting the Dark Man, she decides to make a pact with him — she reappears in an underground temple in Egypt surrounded by followers, becoming a cultist brainwashed by the Dark Man.
After all the cutscenes, you will receive the achievement Radical Acceptance.
This ending can be unlocked with any character, but you will need to go through both scenarios. In the fourth chapter, you will need to find three items and collect the All the World's a Stage set. One of them can always be found, while the remaining are hidden on unique levels for Edward and Emily.
After collecting all three items, proceed to Chapter 5 with any character. At the party in the greenhouse, you will have the opportunity to interact with Grace. Approach her and give her the gift to unlock a new ending.
If done correctly, the ending will begin. Instead of watching the ritual unfold, Edward and Emily leave the theater and meet Grace, who they assume is their daughter. In this ending, the main characters are married, and they discuss the play Alone in the Dark. Edward and Emily note that the play was missing a maze made of hedges and pirates — two important elements of the original Alone In The Dark series. By unlocking the alternative ending, you will achieve the What Was That? achievement.
