The final mission of Dragon Age: The Veilguard puts the heroes and their allies in mortal danger. To ensure the best outcome, you need to complete companion quests and raise the trust rating of all factions to three stars. In this guide, we will explain how to meet all the necessary conditions to avoid losses among your comrades.

Preparation for the Point of No Return

In Chapter 11, a screen will appear asking, Do you want to continue?, warning that the story is entering the inevitable final phase. At this stage, you will no longer be able to strengthen your allies if you decide to proceed. Therefore, it is necessary to save the game before making a decision, so you can return and complete some necessary tasks if needed.

Here are the main preparation steps:

  1. Complete all companion quests: To make each companion a Hero of the Veil, complete all their personal quests. These quests become available as you progress through the game, so keep an eye out for them. Completing the quests not only strengthens your companions' combat abilities but also prepares them for special tasks in the finale.
  2. Achieve 3 stars with each faction: In each area of the map, there are regional quests and side missions that, when completed, increase the faction rating in that region. To check the current rating, hover over the desired area on the map. Once you reach the maximum, you can also sell unwanted items to faction representatives, which will improve their attitude towards you. Note that each faction prefers certain types of items.
  3. Important choice in Chapter 6: To fully upgrade the Minrathous faction, in Chapter 6, you must choose to help Doc Town instead of Treviso. Choosing Treviso will make it impossible to save all NPCs from Minrathous in the finale. This choice has a significant impact on the ending, as the wrong decision reduces Minrathous' strength and lowers the chances of a successful completion.

Step-by-Step Completion of the Final Chapters

When all the preparatory conditions are met and you are ready to enter the Point of No Return, the key part of the finale begins. Here you will have to assign tasks to companions, which will affect the survival of all characters.

Chapter 12: Companion Assignments

  1. Diversion Team: Choice: Davrin or Harding. One of these companions will die in any case, but this choice is important as other tasks depend on the survival of the remaining team members. It is recommended to assign Davrin, as Harding will be useful in the next stages.
  2. Spell Guard Team: Choice: Bellara or Neve. Regardless of the choice, one of them will be temporarily lost but will be saved in Chapter 13. The choice here only affects who you will save later, but not the outcome of the battle.
  3. Main Team: At this stage, your choice of companions for the main team does not matter much, as the squad will perform standard combat tasks.

Chapter 13: Additional Tasks and Ally Protection

  1. Veil Jumpers Protection: Recommendation: Assign Taash, as he is best suited for protecting this faction.
  2. Antivan Crows Protection: Recommendation: Assign Lucanis, as his ambush skills are ideal for protecting the Crows.
  3. Grey Wardens / Memory Wardens Protection: Recommendation: Assign Harding or Davrin if he is still alive. Both characters are effective at protecting large groups and can ensure the successful completion of the task.
  4. Optional Quest in the City: Complete the quest with the blue marker that appears in the city in Chapter 13. This can help strengthen certain allies and increase the chances of success.

Chapter 14: Final Battle and Saving Companions

  1. Divine Mansion Protection: Recommendation: Assign Taash to protect the mansion, reducing the risk of losses among allies and allied factions.
  2. Final Battle and Dialogue: During the final dialogue, choose the lines Let's try your way and I'm sorry it turned out this way. This choice affects the survival of allies and unlocks the achievement Those Who Remain.

Tips for Maximizing Faction Strength

To achieve the maximum rating (3,000 points) for each faction, you need to complete their regional quests and sell the necessary items:

  • Grey Wardens prefer items related to darkspawn and griffons.
  • Veil Jumpers value elven items and items with naga images.
  • Memory Wardens prefer occult items such as the Compendium of the Dead and the Ocular Pedestal.

Factions generally increase their strength from selling items that match their theme, adding +15 points instead of the standard +3.

Additional Notes: Special Quests and Items

  1. Quest On Cursed Wings: In this quest, you need to help Minrathous or Treviso. Choose to help Minrathous, as it gives a smaller penalty (-100 points) for the Antivan Crows faction compared to -250 points for the Shadow Dragons if you choose Treviso.
  2. Boss Fight with Gillan'nain: This fight is relatively simple. Gillan'nain attacks from the center of the arena, and you need to destroy sinister pods to free allies. When Lucanis is freed, he will deliver the final blow to Gillan'nain.
  3. Sellable Items to Isabela: If you didn't manage to sell the necessary items to the factions, you can do so with Isabela. Her trade covers items from other vendors if they were lost due to events in On Cursed Wings.

By following all the above recommendations and making the right companion assignments, you will achieve the best story conclusion and obtain the achievement Those Who Remain.
