Donnie Yen Confirms Sleeping Dogs Movie Announced in 2017 is No Longer in Development

It's been about eight years since the film adaptation of Sleeping Dogs, starring Donnie Yen, was announced. However, the actor recently confirmed that the movie is no longer in development.

For many fans of the game, this news might not come as a surprise, as there hasn't been any update about the film for quite some time. Donnie Yen revealed that he genuinely wanted to star in the adaptation and even invested his own money into its development. Yet, the project ultimately never saw the light of day.

I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights. I waited for years. years. And I really wanted to do it... And unfortunately... I don't know, you know how Hollywood goes, right?
— Donnie Yen

The film was supposed to be directed by Timo Tjahjanto, who is currently working on the action movie Nobody 2, set to premiere this August.

As a reminder, Sleeping Dogs was released in 2012 and received very positive reviews from gamers. The game is an open-world action adventure in the spirit of the GTA series.
