New images from the animated film «The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim» have appeared

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have shared artwork from the animated film «The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.» The images have a very unusual visual style, so it is unclear whether these are actual frames or just concept art.

The film will tell the story of the ninth King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand (who is likely depicted in the first image), who took refuge with his people in the fortress of Hornburg in Helm's Deep. The hero tries to survive an attack by the Dunlendings led by Wulf, who seeks revenge for his father's death.

The animated film is directed by Kenji Kamiyama, known for the series «Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex» and several spin-offs. Brian Cox will voice Helm Hammerhand, and Miranda Otto will return to her role as Éowyn from Peter Jackson's film trilogy.

«The War of the Rohirrim» will be released in theaters on December 13. Earlier, Warner Bros. announced a new film based on «The Lord of the Rings» dedicated to Gollum.
