Sony reveals financial performance of PlayStation 5
Sony's latest quarterly report has unveiled new data on PlayStation 5 shipments. The company managed to ship 2.4 million consoles from April 1 to June 30. For comparison, last year during the same period, shipments amounted to 3.3 million.
Total shipments reached 61.7 million consoles. The console is selling slightly worse than the PlayStation 4, which reached 63.5 million units in the same time frame.
PlayStation's revenue increased by 12%, and operating profit by 32%. However, game sales decreased from 56.5 to 53.6 million copies, and the monthly PSN audience dropped from 118 to 116 million users. Notably, the share of digital purchases grew from 70% to 80%.
Recall that at the end of the year, Sony is expected to release an improved version of the PlayStation 5 with more powerful hardware.
