Insider Sees New Fable Gameplay, Compares Combat to CD Projekt RED's The Witcher
Xbox has been keeping the new Fable tightly under wraps, but a leak from Playground Games' offices has brought some details to light. Journalist and insider Jez Corden got a glimpse of alpha gameplay and shared his thoughts on the Xbox Two podcast.
It seems Fable fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as the game reportedly looks «fucking fantastic.» Corden noted strong influences from CD Projekt RED, with a former The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 designer contributing to the project. The combat system features blocks, pirouettes, and magic, reminiscent of the style seen in The Witcher.
The game's atmosphere remains true to the spirit of Fable, balancing dark and serious themes with comedic elements. For instance, one enemy is a giant chicken that's both hilarious and terrifying. Werewolves will also make a return, and players can reportedly trap them using... a traditional English breakfast.
The insider also mentioned that the alpha version features the same female protagonist shown in previous trailers. However, it's likely the game will offer the option to play as a male character as well.
According to Corden, the game already feels highly polished. While a 2025 release is planned, there's a chance it could be delayed due to competition in the crowded fall season.
