Sony Unveils Concept Technology That Takes The Last of Us Gameplay to a Whole New Level of Realism
At CES 2025, Sony introduced a conceptual technology that could significantly enhance the level of immersion in gaming. With it, players can even smell the enemies as if they were right in front of them.
In the released concept video titled Future Immersive Entertainment, you can see footage from The Last of Us. The technology is akin to virtual reality, but instead of a traditional headset, a special cube-shaped room is used where the player must be.
It consists of high-resolution screens displaying the gameplay in a 3D mode. This is complemented by realistic 3D sound and effects that simulate in-game scents.
Inside the cube, the player holds a replica weapon used to shoot at enemies. It all resembles a highly advanced attraction.
As a reminder, Sony recently announced adaptations of Horizon Zero Dawn, Helldivers 2, and Ghost of Tsushima.
