GeForce Now is coming to Steam Deck with 4K support

Steam Deck users are in for a treat as NVIDIA announces the development of a native GeForce Now app for the portable console. The app is expected to provide seamless access to the cloud gaming service, enabling players to stream games at up to 4K resolution with 60 frames per second, significantly enhancing the console’s gaming capabilities.

Currently, accessing GeForce Now on Steam Deck requires workarounds via a browser, which can lead to suboptimal performance and technical issues. The upcoming native app aims to eliminate these hurdles, offering a more stable and user-friendly gaming experience. One of the standout features of GeForce Now is its support for multiple gaming libraries, including Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect. This integration will allow Steam Deck users to access games they already own on these platforms without needing to repurchase them.

While the Steam Deck’s built-in AMD graphics are capable, they have limitations when running graphically demanding games. GeForce Now, leveraging NVIDIA's powerful RTX servers, will stream these games directly to the console, ensuring high-quality visuals and performance.

However, players should note that premium features like 4K streaming and DLSS 3 support are only available through paid subscriptions. Free-tier users face restrictions such as lower resolution and potential queue times. Premium plans, which include enhanced features, can cost up to $20 per month. NVIDIA has not disclosed an exact release date for the app, but it promises a launch in the near future. Once available, the app will provide Steam Deck users with the same functionality as GeForce Now on other platforms, opening new doors to high-quality cloud gaming.
