Many Nice Improvements: Details of Civilization 7 from IGN's Final Preview

The IGN portal has published its final preview of Civilization 7, which will be released on February 11. The article's author, Jeremy Smith, spent several hours with the game and shared his impressions of the new installment in the turn-based strategy series.

The seventh (actually, the tenth) installment retains many classic elements of the franchise but also introduces several major changes that affect gameplay. The most significant one is the ability to change civilizations when transitioning to a new era. For example, Catherine the Great can rule the Egyptians during the Ancient Era, the Mongols during the Exploration Era, and the Russian Empire in the Modern Era. According to the reviewer, this feature allows for unique combinations and will appeal to players who enjoy creatively developing their civilization.

Firaxis has also revamped the diplomacy system, which is now based on influence points. This currency is used for all actions, from proposing border openings to condemning a leader. Additionally, there are many smaller changes, such as the absence of worker units and the ability to combine multiple units into a single army.

Sid Meier's Civilization 7 will be available on all current platforms, including Nintendo Switch.
