Kensington has introduced the concept of the Expert Mouse TB800 EQ trackball. The new model retains the core design of the classic Expert Mouse: a large central trackball for cursor control and a scroll ring around it. However, the design has been enhanced with two touch-sensitive side rollers that enable seamless scrolling without lifting your hand from the device. Four new programmable buttons and a profile switch provide extensive customization options, which will appeal to design and programming professionals.
The TB800 EQ's standout feature is its multi-device connectivity. The trackball can sync with three devices simultaneously — two via Bluetooth and one via a USB adapter. A status indicator on the body simplifies switching between devices, making it particularly useful for those working across a laptop, tablet, and PC simultaneously. This improvement addresses a key limitation of the current model, which is restricted to a single Bluetooth connection.
Kensington highlights that the trackball reduces wrist strain, which is crucial for prolonged use. However, an IF Design report notes that for tasks requiring pinpoint precision — such as video editing or graphic design — a traditional mouse remains superior. Nevertheless, the TB800 EQ is positioned as an ideal tool for everyday office work, especially in limited workspace settings.
Although Kensington has not confirmed a release date, experts believe the TB800 EQ is likely to launch soon. The model’s success will depend on its pricing: the current wired Expert Mouse retails for around $120, and the addition of wireless functionality could drive up the cost. While users are debating whether the new rollers and buttons will live up to expectations, one thing is clear — ergonomic gadgets remain a key trend in the hybrid work era.
