TeamGroup Unveils SD Card with Immutable Data Capability

At Embedded World 2025, TeamGroup introduced its new D500R ISD WORM SD card — a digital successor to the CD and DVD era that promises an entirely new level of data preservation.

Built on the WORM (Write Once Read Many) principle, the card allows data to be written only once, rendering it immutable even in the event of cyberattacks. Unlike optical discs, which are susceptible to corrosion, the D500R employs MLC NAND Flash with an extended lifespan. With a maximum capacity of 256GB, it can store the equivalent of hundreds of CDs, combining compact design with generous storage.

By integrating both hardware and software solutions, the card “seals” data at the physical level. Attempts to delete, overwrite, or modify files are blocked by its built-in controller, while the S.M.A.R.T. system immediately alerts users to any external interference. Additional safeguards against hardware failures include:

  • Crisis Power Management: Ensures data retention during sudden power outages.
  • Intelligent Sector Analysis: Automatically isolates damaged blocks.
  • Multi-layered Protection: Meets IP58 standards for dust and water resistance, as well as military-grade vibration and shock resistance.

The main drawback is the card’s small size, which increases the risk of loss. Unlike boxed disc sets, this card demands careful storage. Pricing and release dates have yet to be announced.
