Multiplayer in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — how to play online in co-op

Supporting your teammates is vital for success in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, where enemy ambushes await you at every corner. Playing with friends is one of the best ways to enjoy the game. However, like many other games, in Space Marine 2 you need to unlock co-op. In this guide, we will explain how to play online in co-op with friends.

How to invite friends in Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 offers full co-op within the main storyline, as well as three-player joint operations. To unlock co-op, you need to complete the first level of the game. This tutorial level will introduce you to the basic mechanics and attacks before the game really begins after a series of cut-scenes.

Space Marine 2 will notify you about the opening of the co-op mode when the ability to control your squad becomes available. In single-player, your teammates will be replaced by two NPCs, but now you can invite friends to your company. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open the Edit Squad option — either from the pause menu during a mission, or by following the prompt in the upper right corner before selecting a mission.
  • Open the invitation menu.
  • Copy the invite code and send it to your friends.

How to join friends in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

The process of joining friends in Space Marine 2 is similar to inviting them, and you need to complete the introductory tutorial mission to unlock this feature. Once you do this, join your friends by following these steps:

  • Open the Edit Squad menu — either from the pause menu during a mission, or by following the prompt in the upper right corner if you are in the main hub.
  • Open the invitation menu.
  • Find the section labeled Join Squad and check the box.
  • Enter the invite code provided by your friend and click Join.
  • Alternatively, follow the standard functions on your console or PC to accept an invitation from a friend.

All Space Marine 2 campaign missions

The campaign missions in Space Marine 2 include:

  • Skyfire;
  • Severance;
  • Machinus Divinitus;
  • Servant of the Machine;
  • Void Song;
  • Dawn's Descent.

Although the campaign has only six missions, Space Marine 2 offers significant gameplay. Each mission is longer than you might expect, especially the last one. In addition to the main missions, there is a prologue where the protagonist, Titus, gets acquainted with his new role as a Primaris Space Marine.

The campaign unfolds on three key planets: Kadaku, Avarax, and Demerium,

where the Tyranid swarm and the Chaos forces of the Thousand Sons begin devastating attacks on the empire's strongholds.

Skyfire

After a fierce Tyranid invasion, the evacuation of Imperial forces from Kadaku is under threat. Anti-aircraft defenses struggle under the pressure of relentless enemy attacks, and your task is to push back the Tyranids and ensure that these defenses hold long enough for the retreat to be successful.

Severance

Archmagos Nozica needs to be evacuated from Kadaku, but he refuses to leave without vital data from his facility. Your task is to infiltrate the facility, retrieve the data, and evacuate the Archmagos before the place is completely overrun by Tyranid forces.

Machinus Divinitus

After discovering Project Aurora, Titus embarks on a mission to find the missing Morias Leuze. You head to a Tyranid-occupied base on Avarax to learn Leuze's whereabouts.

Servant of the Machine

Leuze is hiding in the Temple of Tassana, which is now besieged by the Tyranids. To save the Magos, you will have to fight your way through the temple and ensure his escape.

Void Song

Despite the dangers, the Adeptus Mechanicus are determined to use Aurora. Titus, along with his fellow Ultramarines, fights against waves of Tyranids and Chaos forces to send a critical warning to Marneus Calgar, the Chapter Master.

Dawn's Descent

In the epic final mission Dawn's Descent, you must infiltrate a captured Adeptus Mechanicus facility to prevent Chaos from activating Project Aurora. This long and challenging mission feels like a combination of several levels, making it a worthy conclusion to the campaign.

All Space Marine 2 co-op missions

Here is a brief overview of the missions available in the co-op mode Operations:

  • Inferno
  • Decapitation
  • Vox Liberatis
  • Reliquary
  • Atreus' Fall
  • Ballistic Engine

Although these missions are part of a separate co-op mode, they are still connected to the main storyline. In these missions,

you follow another group of Space Marines whose objectives often complement Titus' goals. For example, in the mission Inferno, your squad creates a distraction that aids Titus in the campaign mission Severance. You can complete all the co-op missions before unlocking them in the main storyline, but this may reveal plot spoilers.

The Operations mode has four difficulty levels, each featuring larger enemy hordes, stronger opponents, and fewer resources. In return, you will gain more experience and higher-quality arsenal data. Here are the difficulty levels and recommended class levels:

  • Minimal (level 1)
  • Intermediate (level 5)
  • Significant (level 10)
  • Ruthless (level 15)

These are all the current Space Marine 2 missions that you can complete in the co-op operations mode.
