Reuters: Intel missed out on the contract to produce chips for PlayStation 6

AMD will become the developer of the chip for PlayStation 6, Reuters claims. According to the publication, the company won the production tenders in 2022.

Notably, Intel also participated in the competition. Negotiations lasted several months and included meetings of CEOs, engineers, and representatives of major executive positions. The companies could not agree on the profit that Intel would receive from each chip.

The choice in favor of AMD was also influenced by the fact that the company designed the chip for the PS5, and switching to Intel chips could affect backward compatibility.

An Intel representative stated that the corporation «strongly disagrees with this characterization» in the article but declined to comment.

The release of the next-generation consoles is expected around 2028. Earlier, Sony announced the new PlayStation 5 Pro console, which will appear in November.
