During CES 2025, HDMI 2.2 was unveiled — the latest version of the multimedia interface specification. Its bandwidth has doubled compared to the previous version, reaching up to 96 Gbps (compared to 48 Gbps in HDMI 2.1).

It's reported that HDMI 2.2 can transmit uncompressed video at 4K and 240 FPS or 8K and 60 FPS with full color formats in both 10-bit and 12-bit. Video at higher resolutions will undergo a specific form of compression to fit within the 96 Gbps bandwidth. For comparison, the maximum bandwidth of DisplayPort 2.1b is 80 Gbps.
