SS One FPGA console revives PS1 classics with precision

Famous retro gaming enthusiast Taki Udon has introduced the SS One FPGA console, designed to run games from the original PlayStation. The new device promises high emulation accuracy thanks to the use of FPGA chips, which replicate the original hardware without performance loss.

The SS One resembles the PS One, the compact version of the original PlayStation. The console supports original accessories, including controllers and memory cards, and is also compatible with the MiSTer platform, allowing it to be configured to run games from other retro systems. The device is equipped with various ports: HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, 3.5mm audio jack, three USB-A ports, and a microSD card slot. It also features NFC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth modules. For external power, USB-C is used. The console can connect up to two wired controllers and two memory cards simultaneously, just like the original PS One.

One of the key features will be the ability to install an additional disk drive, which will be thinner than the main unit. This makes the device convenient for use with disks while maintaining its compact size. The starting price of the SS One will be $149, but the exact release date is yet to be announced.
