AMD to Refresh Threadripper PRO Lineup — Leak Reveals Specs

The update to AMD’s professional processors, codenamed Shimada Peak, is becoming clearer. According to logistics reports, the Threadripper PRO 9000 series will debut with the 9975WX and 9965WX models, which retain the core configurations of their predecessors but shift to a new architecture.
Shipping manifests mention a 24-core Threadripper PRO 9965WX (48 threads) and a 32-core 9975WX (64 threads). Both chips will maintain a TDP of 350W, consistent across the PRO lineup — from 12-core to 96-core versions. The key difference, however, lies in the transition to Zen 5, which promises increased performance without raising power consumption.
Despite the identical core count, the architectural upgrade and the switch to a 4nm process (versus 5nm in the previous generation) could deliver noticeable gains in multi-threaded workloads. This is especially crucial for workstations, where Threadripper traditionally competes with Intel Xeon solutions. Retaining the SP6 socket will also simplify upgrades for existing platform users.
While attention is focused on the 24-core and 32-core models, AMD is preparing even more powerful chips. According to previous leaks, the company plans to release a 64-core Threadripper PRO 9985WX and a 96-core monster — the 9995WX. The latter is likely to become the new benchmark for high-performance computing.
AMD has yet to comment on the rumors officially, but the series is expected to launch by the end of 2025. Interestingly, unconfirmed reports suggest that some models may feature 3D V-Cache — a technology with the potential to revolutionize the rendering market. For now, the Threadripper PRO 9000 series remains a mystery, but its announcement could shake up the high-performance workstation industry.
