TOP-5 scariest gaming screamers
What can scare you faster and more powerfully than a good jump scare? We remember the most terrible and memorable screamers from games. Put on your headphones, turn off the lights — we're starting.
Library in Outlast
Let's not be original and start with not the newest, but still scary Outlast. Despite the fact that the 2013 game is already quite outdated in terms of graphics and gameplay, it is not lacking in the ability to scare and atmosphere. There are countless jump scares in this horror film, but we want to focus on the very first one.
Yes, we are talking about the library. As soon as the main character gets out of the ventilation, he discovers that the corridor is blocked, and the only way to get around the obstacle is through it. «The door there is slightly open, no sounds can be heard, so it won't be scary,» most of the players thought. How wrong they were! As soon as the door is opened, a suspended corpse will fly out at the player and a loud scream will be heard. It was after this that many immediately turned off the game and swore never to play horror games again.
Shelter in Thief
The next screamer awaits us in the game Thief, released in 2014. Yes, this is by no means a horror game, but at the level of «Moira's Shelter» there is something that can be truly frightening.
Dark corridors, mysterious rustling noises coming from around the corner — all this works for the atmosphere and immediately makes it clear that it will be oh so difficult to move to the next level alive. The developers left the screamer right outside the first door. Looking through the keyhole, you can see several drawings on the opposite wall. After a couple of seconds, one of them will wink at you, and at the same second a girl will appear on the back side of the door and say that we don't belong here. In general, we don't argue — we really want to get out of there as quickly as possible.
Basement in Resident Evil 7
And for the next screamer we go to the American outback — to the state of Louisiana, where, far from civilization, a very unusual Baker family lives in an old and gloomy mansion. As with Outlast, there are an insane amount of jump scares in Resident Evil 7. Therefore, we will mention only a couple of the brightest.
The first screamer awaits you at the very beginning of the game. While making your way through the flooded basement of the guest house, you may stumble upon a member of the film crew. More precisely, his corpse, which suddenly pops up as soon as you stumble upon it. The second one is on the same level, but a little further. Having moved away a little after a rather cold meeting with his wife, the hero goes down into the dark basement when Mia jumps out of the darkness again — of course, to kill him. Yes, go ahead and save these girls from captivity.
Lunapark in Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
What could be scarier than horror in VR? Only VR horror with an abandoned Luna Park. And here it's hard to argue with the developers of Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. If you think that rail shooters aren't scary at all, then you've simply never played them in virtual reality.
Let's not stray too far from the beginning. Immediately after the gate closes behind us, the cart will begin to slowly stop, and a chill will run down our backs... the ghost of an old woman in a white robe will jump out at us! This, of course, is memorable, but the service policy for this amusement park should be reconsidered.
Botiscaphe in BioShock
Formally, BioShock is not even a horror game. But it is here, more than anywhere else, that one feels how insignificant people are in the face of real dangers: be it banal crazy mutants or millions of tons of water, which at any second can simply crush tiny Delight along with its unfortunate inhabitants. All that remains is to find the perfect moment for a screamer.
And such a moment appears at the very beginning of the game. Having descended on a submersible into an underwater city, we witness how a man is killed by a monster with hooks instead of hands. Behind the bloody scene there is a deceptive silence... A second — and only a few millimeters of glass separate you from the monster, from which blood is still dripping. That's it, now an uncomfortable feeling of fear will haunt us until the very end.

That's all for today! Be sure to share your favorite jump scare in the comments. Happy Halloween! We do not say goodbye.
