The game Euro Truck Simulator 2 is already over ten years old. Continuous updates from developers and mods available either in the Steam Workshop or on third-party sites help maintain interest. In this selection, we have gathered the most interesting and relevant modifications for you.

If you have the Steam version of the game, simply open the desired mod in the Steam Workshop and click the green Subscribe button. The additional files will be automatically downloaded and will be available the next time you start the game.

You can also install third-party mods bypassing the Steam Workshop. To do this, copy the downloaded files to the folder My Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2/mod, or unpack the archive to this path (depending on the file format).

The standard traffic density and intensity in the game are significantly reduced to avoid system overload. But over the past 10 years, computers have become more powerful, so you don't have to worry about the additional load. With this mod, the flow of cars will increase during the day, especially during peak hours. As a bonus, there is new behavior for cars, which can now overtake or accelerate up to 35% of their usual speed.

Probably the most useful thing you can add to the game is a camera detector. With it, you don't have to worry about getting another fine for speeding. It will also help you prepare for various road surprises: accidents, roadworks, and other incidents.

If you prefer to drive a truck from the first-person view, you might notice that the standard set of accessories is sparse and dull. This mod fixes that by allowing you to choose from over 400 items, as well as add a companion to the passenger seat.

The game has a rather modest range of cars controlled by artificial intelligence. This modification adds 511 new cars. In addition, there are trailers for passenger cars, police cars for 11 countries, and more than 500 skins for various minibusses.

The Heart of Russia add-on is frozen indefinitely, but today you can already switch to a KAMAZ. This is not a cosmetic mod. A new type of truck will be available for purchase at Volvo dealerships.

In the game, it is not necessary to move only on trucks. Sometimes you need to quickly cover a large distance or just take a break from truck driving. This mod adds the Hyundai Azera HG car, which stands out for its maneuverability and speed, making it unique compared to standard cars.

To make it less lonely, you can use a trailer for a passenger car. Among all vehicle add-ons, users highlight this mobile home as an interesting and stable mod.

One of the most popular modifications that adds a large part of Russia and Belarus to the game. The developers keep an eye on their creation, constantly updating it and fixing bugs. For the mod to work correctly, all existing official map expansions are required.

A large and completely standalone map that is compatible with the Map of Russia (RusMap) mod. Suitable for all fans of domestic roads.

For the mod to work correctly, the following expansions are required: Going East!, Scandinavia, Vive La France!, Italia, Beyond the Baltic Sea.

At the moment, there is no mod on the internet that adds a complete map of Russia, as the country is too large. But enthusiasts are creating it in blocks. The Siberian map is compatible with all the locations described above. For it to work correctly, all existing official map expansions are required.

This is not a themed map and has no relation to the plumber Mario. Most likely, the name stuck from the author's nickname — Mario1961. The mod includes 700 cities and expands the boundaries by adding America, part of Africa, Ukraine, Belarus, and part of Russia. The downside is the long installation, but it is worth it.

If you don't really like the graphics in ETS 2, we recommend trying Improved Weather Reload R6. This mod makes the game textures more realistic, immersing the player even deeper into the trucker's routine. The sky has received more than 60 new textures for detailed reflection of weather and different times of the day, and there are now noticeably more weather phenomena. Light and shadows from objects have become more realistic. We think there's no need to mention the stunning sunsets and sunrises.

If you miss familiar cars on the roads in Euro Truck Simulator 2, this addon will solve that problem. The mod adds 454 (!) new cars to the game, including iconic models like the Mercedes-Benz CLA, BMW X6, Renault Laguna, Skoda Octavia, and many others — there's even a Tesla. In addition to passenger cars, several minibusses and trailers have been added to the game. The author is exceptionally productive: this is not his only traffic mod.

This mod is called the most extensive and detailed of all the winter addons for ETS 2. There are many differences from other similar projects. The game does not just get new textures like snow on trees and roads, but the physics, vehicle behavior model, and even the weather change. For example, it now gets dark much earlier, and by six in the evening, it becomes problematic to see the road without high beams. The cherry on top is the new sound effects, like a blizzard. In short, the mod is more like a full-fledged DLC in volume.

If the usual truck control physics seem too easy for you, and you crave challenges in the spirit of the racing mission from Mafia, then Improved Truck Physics is definitely for you. The mod makes changes to the truck and driver behavior model. For example, the physics of the cabin and trailer have become softer and more realistic. At high speeds, trailer stability noticeably decreases. Due to poorly chosen tires, you can easily lose control of the truck on sharp turns. In short, it's not just a mod, but a step towards a full-fledged simulator.

Another graphics mod whose name speaks for itself. REALISTIC GRAPHICS AND WEATHER makes the picture more vivid, adds updated textures for some objects like gas stations, hotels, and other buildings, and significantly reworks weather conditions. The game now has new rain sounds and fog animation. The moon no longer looks like a lantern hanging in the sky, and the water in lakes no longer looks like blue jelly. The mod works with any maps. We don't understand why you haven't installed it yet.

The addon does not offer major changes but significantly alters the lighting in cities. Now, streetlights and traffic lights emit more natural light and cast small shadows. Of course, it's not RTX level, but it will definitely be more enjoyable to play.

The next modification, Niedersachsenmap, invites players to venture into a completely new region. According to the project developers, they have put a great emphasis on the realism of the environment. In addition to well-crafted city streets, we can expect many new missions in campaign mode. Among the smaller changes: custom vehicles and personalized loading screens.

The last modification for today adds a map of Hungary with a huge number of cities to the game. However, it is somehow done in a 1:3 scale. The location features about 300 large and small towns connected by thousands of kilometers of roads. The mod does not offer anything unusual, but if you have explored all the other maps, you will definitely like this one.

Perhaps the most unusual mod in our selection. Project Japan invites drivers to head to Japan. In the Land of the Rising Sun, truckers will find 11 cities and long hauls during which they can fully enjoy the local nature. The landscapes are crafted with great attention to detail and are as close to the Japanese spirit as possible. Several installed DLCs are required for it to work: Going East, France, Scandinavia, and Baltic.
