Botanicula Review

Can a platformer game immerse players in its world for a long time? Can it be something unusual among all the games of this genre? Of course, it can, and Botanicula is a vivid confirmation of this.

As in most platformer games, our main goal is to save something or someone. In Botanicula, we pursue the same goals. We need to save an entire world! But instead of planet Earth, the "world" is a "tree" that has been attacked by parasites. The parasites are draining the life from this "tree," so our heroes embark on a journey to save the world from destruction.

Although Botanicula belongs to the platformer genre, don't expect a boring playthrough. The locations in the game are mesmerizing, as the action takes place on a living being, so the tree branches periodically move and bend at different angles, and all of this looks very beautiful and captivating. Initially, the game is just simple mouse clicking, simple tasks, and so on. But gradually, the levels get more complicated, and puzzles appear, which sometimes require quite a bit of thinking.

In the game, each hero has specific skills, meaning that when we choose one hero and assign him an action, he may not be able to perform it. But by choosing another hero who is more suited for a particular task, we can complete the task.

Botanicula is a very diverse game. Not only are the locations practically alive, but they are also executed in a very unusual style. The game truly presents a new world with its own rules and laws of physics. The locations are not monotonous; sometimes they are done in light tones, sometimes in dark, and sometimes the locations appear in such a style that it is very difficult to describe.

There is no need to talk much about the sound, it is enough that it is present in the game at all. But it cannot be ignored, as the sound is also part of the world depicted in the game. And, of course, the game's sound palette is as diverse and unusual as the game locations.
