Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War — the gameplay modes are the same: before each mission, the player undergoes a briefing, which includes the current state of affairs, prerequisites and goals of the operation, and selects one of the aircraft and weapons available to him. To complete a mission, the player must complete all of its objectives within a certain period of time, and in some missions there is an update of objectives. The objectives of the missions can be either the destruction of all enemy aircraft or the protection of a specific target from enemy fire. Completing some missions will unlock mini-games such as take-off, landing and mid-air refueling.
