Frostpunk is a management strategy game from the creators of This War of Mine. The game tells the story of people surviving in a snowy world and using steam technologies. You will need to build and maintain a city under challenging conditions. You will develop the last bastion of humanity, which is located in the ice. It is necessary not only to gather resources and create new buildings but also to maintain a positive mindset in a society that may suffer from hunger, cold, and pressure from the authorities.
Genre and gameplay
Frostpunk is a real-time city-building strategy with management elements, set in a steampunk environment. Developed by 11bit studio in 2018 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, it focuses on the survival of a small settlement of people in arctic cold. The player must not only provide shelter and food for their charges but also keep their homes warm while making many difficult decisions.
Circumstances constantly disrupt plans, forcing adaptation, survival, and growth despite the ever-worsening living conditions. Resources must be redistributed, children must be sent to work, and the demands of people dissatisfied with the player's actions must be met. The immersion effect is achieved through excellent graphics with beautiful effects and high-quality textures.
Story
Frostpunk does not have an endless game mode; instead, it offers carefully crafted but still finite scenarios, each telling a story from its own perspective. At the time of release, there were three, and later the developers added several more.
According to the general plot, at the end of the 19th century, a glacial period began in the world. Continental Europe and England were buried under snow, and even large cities were frozen. To survive, people, using steampunk technologies, headed to the Arctic, rich in wood and coal, to use monstrous boilers to heat new settlements.
Then the specifics begin — one scenario simply offers survival, another sets an important goal — to save all plants from extinction, and so on. Each can be completed in different ways, making opposite decisions along the way, which achieves replayability.
Player's working area
In the Arctic, the player has access to a small area for construction, surrounded by a wall of ice, with a steam generator in the center, the heat from which spreads to the nearest homes. Nearby are a few resources available for free; more can be obtained by opening mines and factories.
At the same time, the player is not isolated in their "pit"; they send expeditions in different directions across the game world, find additional quests that shed light on what happened to the planet in the world of Frostpunk and tell how people tried to survive, as well as encounter dangers and accept refugees.
Single-player mode
The main priority is the survival of people, so you need to provide them with shelter, food, warmth, work, and entertainment, choosing from three dozen building options, some of which are constructed from rare, non-renewable resources. You will have to choose - build several low-efficiency buildings or one high-efficiency one, but lose a rare resource.
Harsh conditions will require the adoption of new laws, the enforcement of which will not please everyone. It is very important to maintain loyalty and hope among the people, otherwise they will literally throw a bad mayor out into the cold or run away themselves, deceived by their fantasies.
In Frostpunk, you must constantly manage - reallocating human resources, building and upgrading homes, increasing storage capacity, and regulating the supply of heat to the city.
A significant part of the gameplay is dedicated to research: it improves people's lives, increases the productivity of enterprises, and boosts the volume and speed of resource extraction. The game borrows its visual style, building models, and programmable automaton robots from steampunk.

A very dynamic and most importantly atmospheric game, worth the money, you really start to worry and worry about your little piece of land, especially if your choice fell on the normal+ difficulty level. No quiet gaming and static city simulators: I delayed 1 day - I froze and died, I didn’t have time to build an extra barracks or clinic - there was no one to work with, everyone died, I studied the wrong thing - there are no resources, everyone froze and died Divinely!
Of the minuses - there is no multiplayer, few story missions, you go through quickly.
Очень динамичная и главное атмосферная игра, стоит своих денег, ты действительно начинаешь переживать и волноваться за свой маленький кусочек земли, особенно если твой выбор пал на нормальный+ уровень сложности. Никакого спокойного гейминга и статичных градосимуляторов: промедлил 1 день — замерз умер, не успел построить лишний барак или клинику — некому работать все умерли, изучил не то — ресурсов нет, все замерзли и умерли Божественно!
Из минусов — нету мультиплеера, мало сюжетных миссий, быстро проходишь.
For me it is the best city building simulation game. I love it for the atmosphere and excellent soundtrack. It shows well how people behave in extreme conditions. Many naive people really believe that if you act only kindly, people will appreciate it and will love and respect it, but after this game their opinion may change dramatically! In difficult conditions there is no room for pity! Pity is weakness, and weakness is death!
After the announcement of the second part, I’m looking forward to it, I hope they will add multiplayer to it. I wish one player could control nature while the other tried to survive. Для меня она лучшая игра из градостроительных симуляторов. Обожаю её за атмосферу и превосходный саундтрек. Она хорошо показывает как люди ведут себя в экстремальных условиях. Многие наивные людишки действительно верят, что если поступать только по-доброму, то народ оценит это и будет любить и уважать, но после этой игры их мнение может кардинально изменится! В тяжелых условиях нету места для жалости! Жалость это слабость, а слабость это смерть!
После анонса второй части жду ее с нетерпением, надеюсь в ней добавят мультиплеер. Хотелось бы, чтобы один игрок мог управлять природой, а другой пытался выжить. Secondly, I decided to launch an endless mode, in which there really is no end and there will only be one motivation that will make you not quit until you complete it (spoiler alert) - this is to open the archive and collect all 15 relics with which you can do nothing you can't. 100 days, and that’s 6 hours of wasted time playing the game. As a result, there were more than 650 people, not including the nth number of automata collected, 35 steam cores were collected in stock, the research was all completed in the workshops and also all resources were in abundance. Overall a great game!
Прошел новый дом с раза восьмого, крах поджидал на каждом разе в разных вариациях, будь это изгнание, либо истощение ресурсов, что провоцировало на перезапуск. Вторым я решил запустить бесконечный режим, в котором реально нет конца и там лишь будет одна мотивация, которая заставит вас не бросать, пока не сделаете ее до конца,(внимание спойлер) это открыть архив и собрать все 15 реликвии, с которыми вы ничего сделать не сможете. 100 дней, а это 6 часов где-то убитого времени на игру. В итоге более 650 людей, не включая собранных автоматонов в n-ном кол-ве, в запасе собрано 35 паровых ядер, исследования все закончены в мастерских и также все ресурсы были в избытке. В общем охрененная игра!

Мне очень понравилась игра, особенно дух захватывает её сеттинг. С каждым днём понимаешь, что близится подобный катаклизм, только не в игре, а в реальной жизни. Надеюсь, что всё события останутся в игре. А говоря о самой игре, то это очень тяжёлые симулятор сурового градостроителя, которому каждую минуту игра заслужено подсыпает соль на раны. То угля не хватило на генератор, то резко температура опустилась до -70, а у тебя не улучшенный генератор. Теперь у тебя пол города больных, а палаток только 3 и места на всех не хватит... Ну очень сложно и занимательно, требует иногда подумать. Очень жаль что сюжет игры не достаточно открытый. Вот куда евакуировались люди после уничтожения генератора Винтерхоума или, что случилось с французами во главе последняя осень и это только начало, ведь сам се… Read full
An excellent city building simulator with survival. The only negative is the lack of variety; if the sites and resources were generated randomly, it would be much more interesting. After 20-30 games, the same scenes become boring.
