Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria — The game takes place simultaneously with the events of the novel, starting from the moment Frodo leaves the Shire. Each of the regions of Middle-earth in the game is located in a specific story time. For example, in the Shire it is always September 3018 of the 3rd Age, in Rivendell December 3018, in Lothlorien February 3019. As expansions are released, the game’s story time moves forward, after the release of the Threat of Isengard it approximately corresponds to the beginning of the second part of the book trilogy.

The epic plot represents the main line of the game and takes the player throughout the game world. While completing the tasks of the epic, the player can meet the main characters of the book and even fight shoulder to shoulder with them. In the process of completing quests of the epic line, the world around the player changes, previously inaccessible areas of the map are opened to him, non-player characters change their location.
