Lost Odyssey has the traditional turn-based combat system that can be found in most JRPGs, similar to the combat system found in early Final Fantasy games. The world map allows the player to move as a party between neighboring cities or objects on the map, later the player will gain even greater freedom of movement using a ship. Villages and towns are provided with hotels, where the player can replenish party health, shops where you can sell and buy equipment, and checkpoints to save the game. While exploring the area, the player may be attacked by monsters in the style of a random encounter.
