Mario Tennis Ultra Smash — Before starting a regular Mega Battle match, players select one of 16 playable characters and determine whether they will compete in 1v1 or 2v2 matches. From there, a trial option is selected; Each court is designed with a different ground texture that affects the speed and bounce of the ball. Matches include three emergent abilities: "Random Shots" are glowing dots on the ground that, by standing over them and pressing a specific combination of buttons, allow the player to perform a powerful move; Jump Shots, an ability that allows the player to jump and hit a ball; Mega Mushroom, a mushroom thrown on both sides of the court that causes the player to grow in size, allowing him to hit the ball harder and longer. The game does not require motion controls.
