Resistance 3 — August 1957, America is lost. 90% of the Earth's population is killed or turned into chimeras. Joseph Cappelli, a former US Army soldier who fought the Chimera threat, was expelled from the U.S.I.P. for the murder of Nathan Hale, the protagonist of the previous 2 games. With the subsequent disbandment of the U.S.I.P. humanity has lost its last hope of retaking the planet from the invaders. Joseph gave up the fight against the alien threat and lived an ordinary life. He married a woman named Susan Farley, Nathan's half-sister, after which she bore him a child, and he settled in the small town of Haven, Oklahoma, with a group of survivors of the Freedom Only guerrilla movement. The remains of people are forced to live literally in holes underground.
