"In 2008, after a controversial election and a tie in the Electoral College, David Jefferson Adams becomes the most unpopular president in U.S. history. Shortly after his election, the country descends into riots, uprisings, and terrorist acts. As the situation worsens day by day, in 2011, the president declares martial law on the West Coast and some other territories. In September 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court issues a highly criticized ruling, disqualifying several popular presidential candidates from the elections. In November of the same year, Adams is re-elected president, sparking public outrage. On January 20, 2013, during Adams' inauguration in Washington, a low-yield atomic bomb explodes in the city, destroying it and killing the president along with most of Congress. The country plunges into chaos. On January 28, the European Parliament convenes an emergency session and votes to send peacekeeping forces to the District of Columbia to protect international interests. Powerful separatist movements emerge in the country. On April 15, the governor of California announces the secession of the state and nearby territories from the U.S. Two days later, the governor of Texas does the same, forming the Republic of Texas from neighboring states. By 2014, the country completely fractures into six warring factions. As each of them seeks to capture the entire territory of the former U.S., the Second American Civil War begins. Russia, during the war, invades Alaska and declares it its territory. The invasion operation is personally led by General Nikolai Vladikov — the president of Russia, elected through electoral violations."
