Van Buren is a canceled sequel to the classic Fallout series — turn-based role-playing games in a post-apocalyptic setting. The game was supposed to be the third Fallout. Van Buren was developed from 2001-2003, and its story was about an imprisoned prisoner who, as a result of an explosion, escapes from prison into the Wasteland. Whether the prisoner was a bloodthirsty criminal or an innocent man trapped in captivity was up to the player to decide. The game was planned to be full 3D, a camera rotation system and a choice of combat system (turn-based or real-time).
Unfortunately, in 2003, parent company Interplay declared bankruptcy, and the rights to the universe were transferred to Bethesda. It is difficult to explain the reasons, but the new owner decided not to finalize the project, but to create the third part from scratch with his own vision.
