New details about Judas — a futuristic shooter from the creator of BioShock and System Shock 2
A closed presentation dedicated to the upcoming first-person shooter Judas was held recently, revealing new details. Additionally, several fresh gameplay frames were unveiled.
The game is being developed by Ghost Story Games, founded by Ken Levine, known for BioShock and System Shock 2. In the video below, Geoff Keighley showcases some gameplay footage and shares his impressions.
The main action of Judas unfolds on a massive spaceship, comparable in size to a fully-fledged city. According to the plot, its goal is to transport the last survivors from Earth to Proxima Centauri, but a malfunction occurs on the ship, threatening the lives of all aboard.
The main character, named Judas, must form alliances with different factions, upon which her survival depends. Relations between groups of people are very tense, and sometimes outright hostile. The player will have to decide which faction leader to join. This forms the basis of the story quests.
The setting is designed in a futuristic style. For example, in the game's universe, there is technology capable of reviving people by their molecules. However, after restoration, a person partially loses their memory. This is also played out in the gameplay, allowing the heroine to come back to life after dying.
Among the main features are a high level of replayability thanks to nonlinear gameplay and narrative, as well as deep characters, each with their own motives and backstory. The faction leaders are Nefertiti, Hope, and Tom. Incidentally, they are holograms that have lost their physical bodies but continue to influence other people. The story campaign will take no less than fifteen hours to complete.
Other details:
- The development has been ongoing for 11 years;
- The setting is not related to Ken Levine's previous games;
- The game will feature roguelike elements;
- Faction representatives will react in real-time to the main character's interactions with leaders hostile to them. For example, they might try to bribe or intimidate Judas;
- Each new playthrough will be unique in terms of quests, loot, battles, and even some textures.
Judas is being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The exact release date has yet to be announced.
