Nintendo Switch has broken the record of the legendary NES, becoming the company's longest-lasting console
VGC noted that Nintendo has quietly (perhaps even to itself) broken a record. It turns out that the Nintendo Switch has become the longest-lasting device ever released by the Japanese firm.
All this time, the first place was held by the Famicom (also known as NES), which lasted 2686 days, but yesterday it was surpassed by the Switch. The hybrid console's sales began on March 3, 2017, and it has lived without a successor for 2688 days.
The third place is occupied by the 1977 Color TV-Game, and the Wii is in fourth place. Below you can see the list of all the company's consoles and their years of reign.
- Color TV-Game (June 1, 1977 — July 15, 1983) — 2235 days;
- Famicom or NES (July 15, 1983 — November 21, 1990) — 2686 days;
- Super Famicom (November 21, 1990 — June 23, 1996) — 2041 days;
- Nintendo 64 (June 23, 1996 — September 14, 2001) — 1909 days;
- Nintendo GameCube (September 14, 2001 — November 19, 2006) — 1892 days;
- Wii (November 19, 2006 — November 18, 2012) — 2191 days;
- Wii U (November 18, 2012 — March 3, 2017) — 1566 days;
- Nintendo Switch (March 3, 2017 — present) — 2687 days.
Journalists noted that if the new console is released after March 1, 2025, the Nintendo Switch will last more than 2920 days.
It was previously reported that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will receive improved hardware, 4K support, and magnetic controllers.
