After a brief triumph with a million players at release, the free multiplayer shooter XDefiant has lost almost its entire audience. According to journalist and insider Tom Henderson, Ubisoft will try to save the project for the third season.
He referred to his own sources in the studio, according to which XDefiant's online could have dropped below 20 thousand players. This is the minimum that Ubisoft plans to attract on all its platforms. Otherwise, the shooter will simply lose support, and the developers will lose their positions on the staff.
Now the studio's management has directed all its resources to change the situation for the third season. However, even before its start, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released, which will definitely attract the attention of an impressive part of the audience.
The problem is further aggravated by the fact that the San Francisco division that works on content for XDefiant has recently been hit by a wave of layoffs. Meanwhile, discontent is brewing within the studio itself with the management, which has refused to take responsibility for the project's shortcomings. As Tom Henderson writes, more news about layoffs at Ubisoft can be expected in the next six months.
As a reminder, XDefiant was released on PC (Ubisoft Connect) and consoles on May 22 this year. The game underwent several delays before it was released.
Ubisoft recently unexpectedly decided to return to the classics, announcing a new part of Heroes of Might and Magic.
