Recently, American activists from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) announced that they had found more than 1.8 million examples of «extremist content» created by users of the platform on Steam. US authorities have already responded to the organization's report.
ADL analyzed more than 450 million profiles, as well as tens of millions of comments, identifying many memes, images, and phrases of racist, anti-Semitic, and other content. US Senator Mark Warner from Virginia familiarized himself with the study. As a result, he sent a letter to Gabe Newell, in which he demanded an explanation of whether Valve intends to stop such content on Steam. In his appeal, he emphasized that such comments and memes violate the requirements of the platform and encourage «violence in the real world.»
It is reasonable to question how committed Valve is to effectively implement and enforce Valve's own, self-created Conduct Policy for its users.
By the way, this is the third such appeal in recent years. It is noteworthy that Valve did not respond to any of them publicly. Although Mark Warner threatened «close attention from the federal government,» the platform does not formally violate the law.
Earlier, the creators of Disco Elysium accused Steam of monopolization, calling on other developers to look for an alternative.
