Media: Ubisoft asks Valve to hide player count data for its games on Steam
Recent reports indicate that Ubisoft has requested Valve to remove or hide the concurrent player count data for its games on Steam. The company has yet to officially comment on the matter.
It is reported that Ubisoft's decision is driven by dissatisfaction with the low player counts in some of its games. This could potentially deter investors and negatively impact the company's stock price, which, as a reminder, fell to 2014 levels in September.
«Ubisoft and other companies want to pressure Steam to stop Stream tracker from giving out info they want to keep to themselves», — an insider from Fandom Pulse stated.
Recently, Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws was released on Steam, receiving mixed reviews from gamers. Its concurrent player count stands at just 1.3 thousand at the time of writing.
Rumors suggest that the Chinese company Tencent might be looking to acquire Ubisoft.
