Fans Are Already Building Theories Around the Coin in the The Witcher 4 Teaser
Yesterday, CD Projekt RED officially announced the start of full development for The Witcher 4. As a teaser, the studio showed an image featuring a coin, which has already sparked a wave of discussions among fans.
On the r/witcher and r/Witcher4 subreddits, fans are trying to decipher the details on the coin. Upon closer inspection, you can spot mountains and either the sun or the moon. Here are some of the early theories:
- The coin might be related to the Curse of the Black Sun, signaling the return of the goddess Lilith. Some believe the game will focus on Falka's uprising;
- It could be Defier's Oren which Geralt encountered during a quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It also featured Falka;
- The mountains on the coin resemble the portal at the end of Wild Hunt, through which Ciri passes;
- The story might take place in the northern kingdoms of Poviss or Kovir, or in the Mahakam Mountains. This is hinted at by the snowy location from the first teaser;
- The inscriptions on the back of the coin resemble the Scandinavian alphabet. Given the game's codename «Polaris,» the events could take place somewhere in the north.
It's also worth noting that CD Projekt RED may have distributed the coins as souvenirs to their staff. At least one was spotted in a photo by Mariia Strilchuk, a member of the localization department.
The Witcher 4 currently has no estimated release date, but many believe it might come out in 2027.
Earlier, a graphical modification for The Witcher 3, the HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition, was released. We covered it in a separate article.
