Terminally Ill Fan Allowed to Play Borderlands 4 Before Release
A month ago, a story about Caleb McAlpine, a fan of the Borderlands series who was afraid he wouldn't see the fourth part come out due to terminal cancer, went viral on Reddit. Gearbox Software went out of its way to invite the fan to visit.
The story quickly reached the studio's co-founder Randy Pitchford, who contacted the gamer and discussed all the possibilities. And just recently, Caleb McAlpine actually visited the Gearbox office and even played the finished build of Borderlands 4. He shared this in his recent post on Reddit:
In addition, a large sum was collected for Caleb McElpine's treatment — more than 12 thousand dollars. «Thank you everyone», the fan thanked the community at the end of his post.
Recall that Borderlands 4 will be released in 2025 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. So far, the developers have shown only a teaser and some concept art, and also talked a little about the game itself.
