S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Developers Comment on Gamers' Ratings

Developers from GSC Game World gave another interview to IGN about the ratings and future support of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. The studio was sure that players would be rather cool to the release due to its technical condition.

As Maria and Evgeny Grigorovich explained, over the past months, the developers had to spend 16 hours a day on the game in order to finish it in time for the release. However, the shooter came out quite buggy, and some functions like the A-Life 2.0 system had to be temporarily disabled. It was impossible to postpone the release again — the team had no strength left. Therefore, knowing about the errors that players would encounter, GSC Game World expected low ratings:

I expected to have much less success than we had from the audience. We were afraid of that… we know that the game released in a state that we would like to make it better. And you release the game, there is always some bugs. We know maybe half of them. We know that we would like to have more time, but it's our limitation. So I was afraid that it [S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2] may get it [the reception from players] worse than it was, but still we want it better.
— Evgeny Grigorovich

Nevertheless, the studio intends to continue working on the game so that user ratings become even higher over time:

For a creative person, we want to get an achievement, like we did a game that 90% of people loved, not 85, not 83, not 86. We want 90.
— Evgeny Grigorovich

Overall, GSC Game World believes that releasing the game in its current state is the best possible option, so the project can be proud of.

Let us remind you that recently the third patch with fixes and improvements was released for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
