Minecraft creator won't make spiritual successor to his «sandbox»
It looks like Minecraft 2 from the original game's developer is cancelled. Markus «Notch» Persson has decided to focus on another project.
Despite the fact that a recent poll called for a «spiritual successor to Minecraft», the developer made the decision himself. After some deliberation, he consulted with the team and left things as is to focus on Levers and Chests:
Trust me, the spiritual successor would be way less fun than the dungeon roguelike. They're always kinda sad nostalgia dumps.

We'd probably give it a shot had the outcome been significantly more biased towards what people think they want.
Levers and Chests is a brand new game from Bitshift Entertainment, a studio owned by Markus Persson. According to the developers, the project will be something like a voxel roguelike in the spirit of Diablo. The game does not have a release date yet, but there are screenshots.
Recall that in November 2024, Minecraft won the Golden Joystick Awards 2024 in the Still Playing Award (PC & Console) category. A full-length film based on the sandbox with Jack Black and Jason Momoa in the lead roles is also being prepared for the premiere on April 4.
