The Blood Of Dawnwalker Game Director Explains Why His Team Left CD Projekt RED

The first cinematic of The Blood Of Dawnwalker, a dark RPG about vampires from the creators of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, was recently presented. The founder of the developer studio Rebel Wolves explained why he and his colleagues left CD Projekt RED.

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, one of the key developers of the last two CDPR games and the current game director of The Blood Of Dawnwalker, gave an interview to PC Gamer. In a conversation with journalists, they touched on his departure from his previous studio, which he justified by the desire to implement «crazy ideas»:

I set up Rebel Wolves because I felt that I wanted to make something that is unique with my friends... I feel that those things, those rules of RPG games, can be expanded and evolve. We had crazy ideas. We knew that, you know, if we wanted to make them, we needed to open our own studio, because it would be hard to convince any big company—you know, with non-IP—to change, and do something new, and do something crazy.
— Konrad Tomaszkiewicz

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz is developing his dream game with other CD Projekt RED veterans. For example, The Witcher 3 art director and creative director Daniel Sadowski and Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz have joined Rebel Wolves.

The Blood Of Dawnwalker will be an action RPG about a guy named Cohen, who is turned into a vampire and has 30 days and 30 nights to save his loved ones. The project is being developed on Unreal Engine 5 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. There is no release date yet.

Earlier, the developers told how the in-game timer would be implemented and shared new details. And shortly before that, CD Projekt RED commented on the first presentation of the project from their former colleagues.
