Insider: Ubisoft Reboots Multiplayer Far Cry Project

Ubisoft has reportedly restarted development on its multiplayer Far Cry title, codenamed Maverick, according to industry insider Tom Henderson.

The exact reason for the reboot remains unclear. Originally, Project Maverick was conceived as a multiplayer mode for Far Cry 7, but Ubisoft decided to spin it off into a standalone, survival-based game set in Alaska. The majority of the team working on Maverick were reassigned to Far Cry 7, currently known internally as "Blackbird". Development of the spin-off is now being handled by Ubisoft's Sherbrooke studio.

Far Cry 7 is currently slated for a 2025 release, but there is a chance that the game will be delayed until 2026 or even 2027. No official announcement has been made about the project so far.
