Guide for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 for Beginners — Tips and Tricks
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is quite easy to master, but even in this game, there are a number of nuances, knowledge of which will increase your efficiency. In this beginner's guide, we've gathered all the important information that will help you serve the Emperor even better.
How to Quickly Destroy Enemies
All enemies in the game are conditionally divided into unarmored small fry and reinforced opponents. The first ones die almost immediately and require no effort from you. The latter, on the contrary, can create a lot of problems. In the heat of battle with dozens of enemies, it is important to remember the basic mechanics.
First, check the combos in the pause menu. For all 10 hours of the main storyline, you will not unlock other combo moves, so memorize them early. The peculiarity is that Titus — the main character — does not have separate buttons for heavy and light attacks. Press once — quick attack, hold the press — powerful attack. Alternating such presses gives slightly different effects depending on the melee weapon, but the most important rule is: if you are surrounded by a horde of weak enemies, just press the heavy attack, and the hero will immediately kill everyone nearby. This will give you some space for maneuvering and further planning.
Second, clearly learn the color cues, but remember that they do not always work. A bluish glow means you can parry an upcoming attack. There is another nuance or bug here, as you can parry many other attacks that are not marked with any color. If you are fighting a reinforced opponent, closely watch what he is doing.
Red-orange glow indicates an unblockable attack. Here, the only option is to dodge. Finally, if the enemy himself is flashing red, he can be executed. This is especially important, but more on that later.
The last indicator in combat is the red reticle icon. If this lights up, press the fire button on your gun, and Titus will automatically execute the enemy without aiming. A very useful skill, although it does not always work as needed.
How to Quickly Replenish Armor
Another piece of knowledge that will prolong your life. In addition to the health indicator, the space marine has several armor cells. They are depleted first, and only then your life points. In battle, it is useful to know how to quickly replenish your defense. And here, those very executions we wrote about earlier will help you. Depending on the size of the enemy, you will receive from one to three cells. Outside of combat, armor regenerates automatically.
An important nuance is that the execution state very rarely appears on enemies if you shoot at them. The fastest way to achieve this is precisely after melee attacks, which once again confirms the slasher orientation of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 over a shooter.
How to Replenish Health
When you lose health, the question arises — how to heal quickly. There are several ways in the game. The first is stimulants. You can carry no more than two of them, and they are very sparsely scattered in the locations.
Another way is to die. Strangely enough, death is not the end of your journey. Comrades can raise Titus with a minimal amount of health. There are three such resurrections provided. After the third, you will see a plaque — a fatal injury. If you are not raised, you will be thrown back to the checkpoint. Sometimes you can find relics in the level. These consumables allow you to rise independently, without the help of comrades, but only once.
Finally, the safest option is Titus's special ability. It looks like a golden icon at the bottom center of the screen. When the icon is active, you can use the skill. For a short time, Titus becomes immune to damage, and every melee hit restores a significant chunk of the health bar. With one use, you can almost fully heal, just make sure to use it in suitable situations.
How to Use the Environment
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a very linear game, but sometimes you will still have the opportunity to diversify the gameplay. Pay attention to the red and blue containers. You can shoot them to kill some enemies from a distance. Also, periodically you will encounter equipment capsules. Besides standard guns and blades, there will be especially powerful weapons that should not be ignored.
How to Complete Levels
As we wrote above, the game is very linear, and there are almost no branches in the corridor levels. Sometimes, deviating from the main path, you will find informational tablets with recordings that will slightly reveal lore moments, but this does not affect the gameplay, so it is not necessary to engage in this.
How Progression Works
Regarding progression, it's simple — there is none. Titus has no levels or additional skills, nor new equipment. In the story mode, there is no point in spending time visiting the arsenal before missions.
However, there is progression in the cooperative. There will be personal skills for each class, new properties of weapons, and equipment parts.
How Cooperative Works
The story mode can be completed not only solo but also with comrades. For this, you need to set up a squad and enable cross-platform settings. Each friend can take on the role of Titus's comrades and help you in battle.
How to Unlock Multiplayer
Multiplayer is brought out in the game as a separate mode. You can access it at the terminal near the landing pad from where you fly out on missions, or in the command center at a similar terminal. Conditionally, all multiplayer is divided into Operations mode and Endless War. In the first, you will complete missions that take place parallel to Titus's story, but there will be no separate characters — choose any class and go ahead. Your enemies will be the same opponents as in the story. Endless War is a competition between players.
Which Class to Choose in Multiplayer
There is no strict class binding in the game. All presented options are still Space Marines and wield the same guns and swords. However, each class has its own abilities, which make sense to consider. Some use a jet pack on a regular basis, some use a grappling hook, and some set up a shield. It is advisable to play at least once with each to decide.
As you level up your hero, you will unlock new specific skills, as well as armor parts. However, weapons are leveled up for the player as a whole. The ones you use more often will have new properties unlocked. However, special resources are required for unlocking, which are scattered exclusively in the Operations levels.
