Over 32,000 Children Audition for the Roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the Harry Potter Series
In September this year, HBO launched a casting call for the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione for the upcoming Harry Potter series, encouraging inclusivity and diversity. It turns out that over 32,000 children auditioned for these leading roles.
This was announced by the series showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod.
The creative team plans to review all the videos sent by the children. The creators have not yet made a final decision regarding their choice. They plan to compile a shortlist of candidates for the lead roles in January.
Filming for the series is set to begin in the summer of 2025. Francesca Gardiner also mentioned that in the series, Harry Potter's parents are 21 years old at the time of their death, while Severus Snape is 30 years old. According to media reports, this role might go to Paapa Essiedu, who is currently 34 years old.
As a reminder, recently Ralph Fiennes, known for his role as Voldemort, gave his blessing to Cillian Murphy to take on the role of the villain in the series. Rumor has it that the role of Albus Dumbledore might go to Mark Rylance.
