PlayStation 2 has sold 160 million units over its lifetime
Sony Interactive Entertainment's CEO, Jim Ryan, revealed the total sales of the PlayStation 2. Notably, the company last shared this information back in 2012. At that time, the console's sales stood at 155 million units sold.
Now, according to Jim Ryan, the total sales of the PS2 have reached 160 million units. Thus, it continues to top the list of the best-selling consoles in history. Currently, the list also includes the Nintendo DS (154.02 million) and the Nintendo Switch (139.36 million).
It's worth mentioning that the PlayStation 2 was released in the year 2000. It belongs to the sixth generation of gaming consoles. The most popular game on this platform was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. As of March 2012, there were 20.81 million copies of the PS2 version of the game sold.
Meanwhile, new information about the PlayStation 5 Pro, which has not yet been officially announced, continues to emerge online. Previously, insider Tom Henderson shared details about the console's performance.
As for Jim Ryan, it was revealed last year that he decided to step down. From April 1st, his position will be temporarily filled by Hiroki Totoki, who is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Sony Group Corporation.
