Visitors of QuakeCon 2024 got to see the first full gameplay of Doom: The Dark Ages — the new installment of the series set in a grim Medieval setting. Details from eyewitnesses have already surfaced online:
- Overall, the gameplay has become much slower than in Doom Eternal, with a greater emphasis on parrying and defense;
- One of the new enemies will be a spider-like creature with a human torso, resembling a boss from Dark Souls;
- There are now shielded soldiers with glowing shields and mancubi, which are now much larger;
- In a mission involving piloting a mech, the main character shoots enemies with a massive machine gun and tears pieces off buildings;
- During dragon flights, you need to fight both ground and aerial enemies;
- There are many new melee attacks. The Doom Slayer has a chain that returns ammunition, a regular strike that causes chain lightning, and a mace;
- Fatal executions are still present, now a halo lights up over nearly dead enemies. You can tear off the hands of Hell Knights;
- The interface is now closer to the center of the screen;
- The arsenal will include a single-barrel shotgun and a double-barrel plasma rifle;
- The shield-saw instantly kills weak enemies and stuns strong ones.
Doom: The Dark Ages will be released in 2025 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
