Silent Hill 2 Remake: A Worthy Successor with an 87 Metacritic Rating
The embargo on reviews for the Silent Hill 2 remake has been lifted. It seems that Bloober Team has succeeded: the reimagining of the cult horror game received a score of 87 on Metacritic and 89 with a 100% recommendation rate on OpenCritic.
Most critics were pleasantly impressed with the game. According to them, Bloober Team treated the original with extreme care while expanding the story where necessary. They also praised the advanced graphics, terrifying sound design, and, most surprisingly, the decent combat system.
The main drawbacks often mentioned are the prolonged playthrough and some puzzles that disrupt the game's pace. «The main campaign of the 2001 Silent Hill 2 can be completed in around eight hours, but my playthrough of this 2024 remake hit the credits at just over 15. While it's almost twice as long, I don't really feel it's doubly as good,» said an IGN journalist.
