Sony Reportedly in Talks to Acquire FromSoftware, Creators of Dark Souls and Elden Ring
Sony may soon become the new owner of FromSoftware. According to Reuters, the Japanese tech giant is negotiating the acquisition of Kadokawa Corporation, which owns several studios, including the creators of Elden Ring.
Sony already holds a 2% stake in Kadokawa and partial ownership of FromSoftware. If the talks progress smoothly, the deal could be finalized within weeks.
The acquisition cost remains unclear. Kadokawa's market value stands at $2.7 billion, while Sony's valuation is around $114 billion.
Kadokawa, founded in 1945, has grown into a massive media conglomerate encompassing numerous subsidiaries.
FromSoftware is renowned for titles like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring. Just yesterday, the studio's latest expansion, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, was nominated for Game of the Year.
