Report: Sony Developing a Portable Console Capable of Running PS5 Games

Sony is reportedly working on its own portable gaming console, according to Bloomberg. The device is expected to support PlayStation 5 titles.

The project is still in its early stages, meaning the release is likely years away. With this new handheld, Sony aims to compete with Nintendo and Microsoft, which is also said to be working on a similar device.

Bloomberg noted that the PlayStation Portal, Sony's current cloud-based handheld for streaming PS5 games, was initially envisioned as a standalone device like the Steam Deck. However, its capabilities at the time were deemed insufficient for standalone use.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's Switch remains the dominant handheld console, with over 146 million units sold. Its next-generation successor is expected to debut in 2025.
