The popular streaming service Netflix now boasts approximately 302 million subscribers. Recently, the company announced plans to raise subscription prices in several countries: the United States, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina.

Here's how the prices will change, according to media reports:

  • Basic plan — $7.99 (previously $6.99);
  • Standard plan — $17.99 (previously $15.49);
  • Premium — $24.99 (previously $22.99).

A recent report indicates that 41 million users subscribed last year, with 19 million joining in the fourth quarter. The plans to change prices were noted in a letter to shareholders.

As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix. To that end, we are adjusting prices today across most plans in the US, Canada, Portugal and Argentina (which was already factored into the 2025 guidance we provided in October 2024).

The exact timing of the price changes has not been specified. Additionally, a new subscription plan is expected to be introduced, allowing subscribers to invite other users (beyond those already in the family) for an additional fee.
