IGN: Sleeping Dogs Adaptation With Marvel Star In Development

A film based on Sleeping Dogs is still in development, but with a different actor. Recall that earlier it became known about the cancellation of the film adaptation, which was announced back in 2017.
In January, actor Donnie Yen reported that the development of a film with his participation was closed after eight years of waiting, despite his own efforts. The director's chair was supposed to be occupied by Timo Tjahjanto, known for the future sequel Nobody.
However, today the IGN reported the start of production of the film. A source close to the project said that in the new film adaptation of Sleeping Dogs, the role of Wei Shen will be played by Simu Liu, who played Shang-Chi in the Marvel blockbuster Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Earlier, the actor responded to Donnie Yen's words about the project's closure, stating that he had contacted the copyright holders «to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen».
Simu Liu will also act as a producer of the future film. The media company Story Kitchen, known for its adaptations of games like Sonic the Hedgehog, is responsible for the development. Square Enix is also participating in the creation of the film adaptation.
Earlier, Will Smith released a music video in which he appeared as Neo from The Matrix. The opening of the future anime based on Devil May Cry from Netflix has also appeared.
