Valve has announced the release of the Team Fortress 2 SDK (Software Development Kit), allowing content creators to develop their own games and various projects based on the game. The developers noted that they have updated the Source SDK by adding the Team Fortress 2 code.
Mod makers, rejoice! We've just released a massive update to the Source SDK, adding all the Team Fortress 2 client and server game code. This update will allow content creators to build completely new games based on TF2. We're also doing a big update to all our multiplayer back-catalogue Source engine titles (TF2, DoD:S, HL2:DM, CS:S, and HLDM:S), adding 64-bit binary support, a scalable HUD/UI, prediction fixes, and a lot of other improvements!
The developers highlighted that enthusiasts and modders can now rewrite the base game, transforming or completely altering it into something new.
It is reported that the SDK is licensed to users on a non-commercial basis. This means that any project created using it must be distributed for free.
As a reminder, Team Fortress 2 was released in 2007 and currently holds an 89% positive review score on Steam.
