Dark Souls Fans Will Appreciate This — Doom: The Dark Ages Can Be Beaten with Just a Shield
March 10, 2025, 02:34 PM

Hugo Martin and Marty Stratton have shared new details about Doom: The Dark Ages' combat system. While the shooter is packed with powerful weapons, theoretically, players don't have to use them at all.
According to Martin, hardcore challenge seekers will have the option to complete the game using only a shield.
If people could beat Dark Souls with no damage and pistol-only Nightmare runs on [Doom 2016], I'm sure people will figure out how to do it with the shield and the melee, because they're pretty powerful, but you'd have a hard time, that's for sure.
Marty Stratton added that playing The Dark Ages without weapons makes the experience much less engaging, so he recommends playing through the game as the developers originally intended.
Doom: The Dark Ages launches on May 15 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. Prior to this, the developers also revealed a new Marauder enemy and a rifle called the "Skullcrusher."
